New War Taxes
The new income tax which came into force as from Wednesday will be payable in two instalments in January and July 1917. Changes were made in the first budget of last year, but the effect of the alterations of the income tax and excess profits is a mystery or rather a series of mysteries which it is doubtful whether the Revenue authorities themselves can yet unravel.
