3rd April 1918 - CURFEW IN WORCESTER

Rolling casualty count: 9052

War Front:

2nd Batt: Marching order and kit inspection at 2pm. The remains of the Division are moving to Arras.

3rd Batt: Enemy quiet and no casualties.

4th Batt: Inter Coy relief took place. Batt HQ at Wallemolen.

Home Front:

CURFEW IN WORCESTER – Cinemas not Affected – The restrictions as to lighting now known as the “Curfew”, will not apparently affect Worcester much. At present the Chief Constable has not received a copy of the Order itself, but has received a memorandum in respect of it. This indicates that the part which applies to Worcester (only part of the Order affects the whole country) relates to the lighting of shop fronts. So far as can be ascertained at present, the restrictions imposed upon cinemas, theatres and restaurants, do not apply to Worcester.

YOUR FOOD CONTROL – Perhaps it is war-bread, perhaps war-worry: but whatever the cause, undoubtedly people are losing flesh. Every Doctor has his hands full of such cases. “Food control is not the cause of it” one of them said. “The rations are sufficient to feed anyone. It is because people do not control their own food that they grow thin. “Instead of feeling vigorous and refreshed after a meal, people are heavy, full and sleepy. Their food is only half used and the unused part of it poisons the system. Then they grow thin dyspeptic and nervous”.
