16th December 1916 - Captain Leicester wounded but back from the Front

Rolling casualty count: 5126

2nd Batt: The Batt was billeted in huts with plenty of room but the camp surroundings were very muddy.

4th Batt: Batt inspected in marching order. There was a conference of Cos at 88th Brigade HQ.

2/8th Batt: 37 men evacuated sick,

9th Batt: Batt made its way across the River and took up an outpost line on the farther side.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: Brigade marched in reserve to the Desert Column with the prospect of having to attack the strong enemy position at Marsaid.

Home Front:

Capt.Philip Leicester’s Return – Capt Philip Leicester, son of Ald and Mrs Leicester, who was wounded on the Salonika front, has arrived home on convalescent furlough. He was hit by a Bulgar bomb on October 9th. His left arm was badly smashed and he received other injuries including the loss of the tip of a finger. He is making excellent progress towards complete recovery. Capt. Leicester joined the Worcestershires in the autumn of 1914.

Whist Drive and the Infirmary - A whist drive took place at the Infirmary on Thursday afternoon, there was a large gathering and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. During the afternoon tea was served by soldiers and nurses. Mr T Brown proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Lauries for the great interest and work she had given for the benefit of wounded soldiers.
