13th October 1916 - Carpet workers' strike

1st Batt: Preparations were made for a move by train to the South.

4th Batt: Batt moved to the firing line in the evening. Our artillery was shelling day and night. Germans were sending heavy barrage on Sunken road and the north side of Grandecourt. Cocoa Alley from Pilgrims way to the firing line was completely flattened. Several German prisoners came in during the early hours.

1/8th Batt; Batt minus A and C Coys marched to billets at Souastre.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: There was another general move forward. C and D Squadrons were with HQ camped at Bayud, A garrisoned Mageibra to guard the right flank. Hod Bayud was on the extreme edge of the water area.

Trouble Among Carpet Workers – Police Court Proceedings at Kidderminster – A strike of women workers at certain works in the town. A number of women left their work on Saturday, but a large number of women continued.

Malvern Yeoman Honoured – Sergt. Major J Brodie of the Worcestershire Yeomanry, eldest of three fighting sons of Mrs Brodie of Malvern Link, who was mentioned in Dispatches for his work in Gallipoli, has been awarded the Karageorge 1st Class (with swords) – a Serbian Order
