11th October 1916 - Animal cruelty charge thrown out

1st Batt: Batt relieved by 2nd Yorks Reg and went to billets in Labourse.

2nd Batt: CO reconnoitred the front Line at Hebuterne.

4th Batt: Batt moved to Switch trench situated on high ground north of Delville Wood. Two Coys occupied Gap Trenchand 2 Coys were in Pioneer trench.

Hoppickers’ Depridations – At the Worcester County Petty Sessions, 16 women and one man were charged with stealing 15.3/4cwts of apples, belonging to Mr Best of the Stocks Farm, Suckley.

Worcester Dealer Summoned – No Intentional Cruelty – At Hereford City Police Court, F Jones, drover, was summoned for ill-treating a ram by travelling the same when in an unlit condition and Henry Lane, dealer, Priory House, Worcester, was summoned for causing the said ram to be ill treated. P.C. Bird stated that his attention was called to the sheep, which was lying on the footway in Edgar Street under the charge of two little lads. He examined the animal and found that it had a broken leg. An ambulance was fetched and the sheep taken to a slaughterhouse.
