18th August 1916 - Wounded soldiers entertained at Broadway.

At the Front:

2nd Batt: Batt standing ready to move at an hour`s notice from 2.45pm.

3rd batt: Batt moved to trenches near Leipzig Salient.

7th Batt: batt relieved the 11th East Lancs in Neuve Chapelle. Two 8th Worcs joined from Base.

8th Batt: batt moved up to Croix Barbee and took over posts in the Reserve Line.

10th Batt: Batt relieved by 10th Royal Warwicks by 9.00am. A Coy went to Daylight Corner in the same sector.

SMD RFA: Batteries assisted attack of 48th Division in the trenches and it was successful.

On the Home Front:

Wounded Soldiers Entertained at Broadway – Through the generosity of Miss Ellen Sharpe and Mrs Jesse Metcalf of Providence, Rhode Island, USA, wounded soldiers from Abbey Manor, Winchcomb, Dumbleton and Clopton, numbering about 200, were entertained to tea in the beautiful grounds of Court Farm, kindly lent by Madame Navarro, Although the weather was dull and showery, the spirits of the soldiers were high and all appeared to have an enjoyable time.

St John’s Boy Scouts – Camp at Clifton on Teme – Thanks to the efforts of the Scoutmaster, St John’s Boy Scouts held their annual camp at Clifton on Teme, where an enjoyable week was spent, fine weather prevailing up to the last Saturday afternoon when the camp broke up.
