Jutland Battle Echo – Evesham Girl’s Letters found in Sweden – An interesting though melancholy sequel to the great naval battle off the Jutland coast on June 1st is reported from West Bromwich. Among the crew of HMS Defence, a light cruiser, which was reported sunk with all hands was 1st Class Stoker C Perkins, whose parents live in West Bromwich. A few days ago his sweetheart, who lives near Evesham, received a letter from Sweden enclosing a number of letters she had written to Stoker Perkins and also several photographs, which had been washed ashore on the western coat of Sweden. The package must have been carried by the ocean currents some hundreds of miles from the scene to reach the coast of Sweden.
