23rd July 1916 - The Home and Colonial shop appeal to military tribunal

At the Front:

2nd Batt: Batt marched to bivouacs in a field a mile from Dernancourt. A draft of 28 men arrived from 1st Batt and 45 tents were received.

3rd Batt: Batt marched to Mailly Wood and are in Divisional Reserve.

4th batt: Batt moved out at 8,40am with first line transport and wagons-arrived at Beauval at 1.45pm. No men fell out on march.

2/7th Batt: Relieved the 2/4th Bath Reg. Oxford and Bucks Reg extending our line on the left, C Coy withdrawn from Dead End Post being relieved by the 2/8th Worcs.

10th Batt: Village of Bazentin-le-Petit badly shelled. After heavy casualties Batt made its way back to south of village to rest.

On the Home Front:

County Appeal Tribunal: The Home and Colonial made application in respect of Charles Watkins (40), manager of the Company’s shop in High Street, but the local Tribunal thought that either this shop or the Company’s shop in Mealcheapen Street should be closed.

National Egg Collection: Seven hundred and nineteen eggs were collected at the Guildhall during the week ending Saturday, as against 676, the previous week. The chief contributors were: Inkberrow 147, Kempsey 128 and Claines 65.
