15th July 1916 - Petrol licences to be issued

At the Front:
1st Batt: Batt billeted in village of Fougveneut about 20 miles from Bethune.
2nd Batt: Co Cos went to find a suitable reserve position for the batt. Men marched off in mist at 5.00am and took up a position between Bazentin Rd and High Wood A and B Coys in front line C and D in support. Batt went to support of 9th HLI who were unable to clear the wood but attacks were held up with enfilading fire from enemy machine guns in High wood. Batt held their line.
3rd Batt: Patrols were sent out towards Posieres and the trenches in the vicinity of the front line were consolidated.
4th Batt: At 9.0am, 2 german aeroplanes were seen over the wood and one dropped a bomb.
2/7th Batt: Lt BE Roberts was appointed Sniping Officer and 2nd Lt Brodie was appointed Brigade Salvage Officer.
2/8th batt: Band D Coys relieved by 7th Royal Warwicks Reg and marched to billets at Estaire. We released gas and smoke bombs on enemy trenches.
10th Batt: Moved to Hennecourt expecting to relieve a Brigade of the 34th division at Posieres but the order was cancelled at 8.0pm.
SMD RFA: great trouble with telephonic communications.
On the Home Front:
Petrol Licences: Licenses will be issued on August 1st by the Petrol Control Committee to the users of motor spirit. The periods of the licenses will be six months in respect of cars used by medical men, four months in the case of commercial vehicles, and three months in respect of private motor cars. Each license will fix the quantity of petrol which the licensee will be allowed to obtain monthly, and payment of the additional war tax on the spirit must be made in advance by those who are liable to the duty.
Post Office Notice: Commencing on the 24th inst., the day mail delivery of letters, etc., and parcels and also the day mail collections, will cease to be made on all the country posts within the postal district of Worcester.
