Worcester Yeoman Prisoners – Lieut and Quartermaster W Bell, who was among the members of the Worcestershire Yeomanry to be captured by the Turks in the now memorable fight at Katis on Easter Sunday, has written home to his wife in Park Avenue, Worcester. He says: “Settled here for the moment. Quite well and comfortable. Can only write four lines per day. Nice climate, quite cool”. The imprisoned officer manages to cram quite a lot into four lines. He asks for some tobacco to be sent, saying there is no pipe tobacco to be obtained, only cigarettes. He adds that he has lost everything, including his pass book. Happily this book was picked up by a New Zealand officer and has been sent home to Worcester. His horse a fine mount, lent by Lady Honor Ward, was found by a member of the Army Veterinary Corps, who returned to the camp in Egypt.
