4th June 1916 - Led by General Alexei Brusilov, a major Russian offensive is launched in western Ukraine, principally against the Austro-Hungarians, who are forced into steady retreat. Fighting continues until 17 August.

At the Front:
1st Batt: Batt relieved on our 4th day in the trenches by 2nd East Lancs. Moved to good billets at Fosse 10.
2nd Batt: Church Parade and Divine service at Jardin des Sports.
4th batt: Eleven bodies retrieved from debris at 6.00am and taken for burial at Auchon Villiers Cemetery. One officer and 9 men returned from leave.
On the Home Front:
The Military Cross – Malvern and Kidderminster Recipients – Second Lieut. J.W.R. Campbell, of the Worcestershire Regiment (Son of General Sir William Campbell, K.C.B.) has been awarded the Military Cross for gallant conduct in a cutting out expedition against the German trenches. Major J. Horace Thursfield, South Staffs, was similarly honoured. Major Thursfield was educated at Bromsgrove School and after being articled to his Father, Mr Spencer Thursfield of Kidderminster, he was admitted a solicitor in 1905 and was appointed town Clerk of Kidderminster. He has been serving with his Regiment in France since early in the year of 1915.
