13th June 1916 - Barbourne Man lost on HMS Defence

At the Front:

1st Batt: Batt marched off at 8.00am via Hersin, Barlin and Houdain to Dieval arriving at 1.30pm. It rained all day but the new billets are good.

2nd Batt: Batt in very heavy working parties. Two platoons of C Coy went to Beuvry to practice for a proposed attack.

4th Batt: Brigade training in presence of Gen de Lisle, 29th Division. He remarked that he was pleased with men.

10th Batt: Four officers, four NCOs and two servants went to visit the trenches.

On the Home Front:

One of a Fighting Family – News has been received by Mrs Munslow of 16 St Paul’s Walk, that her eldest son, Private F.G. Munslow of the Worcestershire, has been killed in action. Pte Munslow who was only 19, joined the Worcestershire Regiment in January 1915 and went out to the front the following August. He has been wounded twice, the last time being at Easter. His Father Bombardier G.H. Munslow of the R.F.A. has been out at the front for 14 months. His younger son is serving as a driver in the A.S.C.

Barbourne Man on the Defence – Mr Jones of 3 Pinkett Street, Barbourne, has received information that he son, James Jones, Seaman First Class Gunner, was lost in H.M.S. Defence in the naval battle. He had served a number of years and in all parts of the world. He has three other brothers with the forces.
