19th March 1916 - Pershore football match raises £2 10s

At the Front:

8th Batt: Back to trenches. Received orders to make a raid on the Quadrilateral in front of Servins. Raid to take place on the night of March 22nd. Junior officers and men glad to be taking part. Four Officers and 80 men were sent to Sailly where a facsimile of the Quadrilateral was marked out.

2nd Batt: Repairing right Coy`s line during the day as their trench was blown upin several places.

On the Home Front:

At a football match between the soldiers stationed at Pershore and a team of Pershore footballers, £2 10s. was collected to buy comforts for the wounded Worcesters. It has been forwarded to the proper quarters. The result of the game was Pershore 4, Soldiers 0.

Cases of “Spotted Fever:” At a quarterly meeting of the Evesham Joint Hospital Board, quarterly bills and accounts, which were stated to be rather heavy, were passed. Medical attendance came to about £85. The total number of patients in the Hospital during the year ending December was 125, of which 114 were admitted during the year, and 11 were inmates previous to the commencement of the year…The application of the Matron (Miss Adkins) for an increase of salary was considered. The present salary is £50. The Chairman said Miss Adkins had been there 25 years and had done her work well. At the same time £50 a year with maintenance was a good salary for a woman. He should be prepared to support an increase of £5 or £10 and it was agreed to raise Miss Adkin’s salary by £10 a year…Two fatal cases of “spotted fever” had occurred in the same house at South Littleton. Two children and a woman who were not suffering from the disease were to be isolated in the Sanatorium…It was agreed to insure the Sanatorium against hostile air raids.
