Conditions in prisoners camp in Germany

A Worcestershire resident has received the following letter from an exchanged prisoner of war (now in a military hospital):- "I have been at Stendal Camp in Germany......The food they gave us in Germany was not fit for pigs to eat. We got a drop of coffee, and at 5 am, one ration of black bread; 11 am. One bowl of soup; 6pm. One bowl of soup, but it is made of swedes, cabbage leaves, and herrings, and is terrible stuff to eat. I myself was one of the unfortunate ones in camp. A German Under Officer set a dog on me. On Dec 26th I had four very bad bites, and I have had my right arm disabled.’
