24th February 1916 - Cycle repairer charged with neglecting his child

City Police Court

Father and Child - Frederick Lettice, cycle repairer was charged with neglecting his child, Edgar Lettice, nine years in age, in a manner likely to cause him unnecessary suffering. Defendant pleaded not guilty. The proceedings were taken to make the defendant contribute to the upkeep of the child, Mrs Lettice said she had been married to the defendant for 14 years, but they had not lived together for six years. Defendant had sent her only 22s. in four months, he said he would send 6s a week in future. The Bench committed him to prison for three months, but directed that the order should lie in the office and not be executed if he paid the 6s regularly.

Shop Hours in Worcester

At a meeting of the Worcester Corn and Seed Merchants to consider the regulation of the early closing of shops the following regulation was adopted - it was unanimously agreed that the following hours be adopted, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 7pm. Thursdays, 10 pm; Fridays 8pm; Saturdays 9pm.

The whole of the local corn and seed merchants in the city were represented at the meeting.
