The lad was punished most excessively and the parents went to one of the guardians and told him.

Mr Cook gave him four strokes and then boxed his ears four times.

He asked the boy what he did. Another lad called him a German and he struck him.

The teacher sent him to Mr Cook again. The lad stripped, and from the thigh to the knee nearly he was one mass of black. The 4 committee thought that he had been punished excessively.

Trade with the Enemy- A City Council Resolution

At a meeting of the City Council to-day, Ald. Carlton moved: “That all Committees of the Council be instructed to avoid business with firms which are enemy-owned, or are managed or worked directly or indirectly by, or under the influence of, enemy subjects, or carried on wholly or partly for the benefit of, or on behalf of, enemy subjects, even if the firm or company may be registered or incorporated within His majesty’s Dominions” he urged that if this were done it would encourage British manufacturers to meet the demand for goods which formerly came from Germany, and thus we should be organising for trade victory. The motion was carried.
