30th January 1916 - Worcestershire Yeomanry: C Squadron moved to Kantara

Rolling Casualty Count: 2729

At the Front:

7th/8th Batt: A Coy moved to the line of the enemy`s wire during the night. Weather was dark, foggy and bitterly cold. Wire was being cut close to the German trench but it proved too strong to cut and the enemy raised the alarm before a passage was executed. A short bombing raid followed when Sgt Parks showed great bravery and earned a DCM. It seems impossible to surprise the enemy. Yeomanry: C Squadron moved to Kantara, splitting up the Regiment into isolated squadrons which practice continued for the next two months.

SMRFA: Combined bombardment of enemy trenches. The 6th Gloucesters went into the trenches at the southern end of Gommecourt Wood. Misty weather prevented the 5th Warwickshires from going out.

On the Home Front:

Engineers leave Pershore: On Friday afternoon the contingent of the Royal Engineers, who have been billeted at the Cottage Homes and the Victoria Hotel for several months past, left for service abroad. During the time they have been in Pershore they have made many friends, who will wish them luck in the future.

For the Young Benedicts: We are asked to draw attention to an alteration in the recruiting orders affecting recently married men who have been attested. The original order stated that men who were married after August 15th should be regarded as single and placed in the first 23 groups. This date has been altered to November 1st. Thus any married man, who, because he was married after August 15th, has been put down as a single man, will be put back 23 groups if he applies at the Broad Street Recruiting Office. This applies only to those married before November 1st.
