At the Front:

1st Batt: Sun thawing the freezing condition; MFA: Severe cold spell ended. 4th Batt: Men boiling up tea with rum and also Bovril available. Rifles will not work in the freezing cold. There is an exemplary cheerfulness in the men and a willingness to work if well enough.

SPEECH DAY

The annual speech day and distribution of prizes in connection with the Alice Ottley school was held on Saturday. Viscount Cobham presided, and the attendance included Viscountess Cobham, the Dean and Mrs. Moore Ede, Canon Wilson, Canon Chappel. The girls first sang a part-song “The Best of Rooms” (C. Wood). Marjorie Grisman recited “The Search Lights” (Alf. Noyes), and the juniors sang a pretty song “Le Petit Noel”
