Entertainments at St Martins. A dual object. In aid of the St Pauls Parochial Fund and of the Worcestershire Regiment's Comforts Fund, two entertainments were given in the St Martin's Parish Hall, London Road on Thursday. The programme consisted of vocal and instrumental music and short sketches. The Rev. G S Studdert Kennedy (Vicar of St Paul's) explained that Miss Morris who had been largely instrumental in arranging the entertainments was unable to be present having suffered a heavy bereavement and had very unselfishly insisted that the entertainments should take place as planned. Mr Studdert Kennedy sang some of his popular numbers and the Rev HBS Fowler gave stirring songs and a very amusing imitation of a street vendor of cough lozenges. At each entertainment an appeal was made of behalf of Mrs Price Hughes' Plum Pudding Fund for Worcestershire. The total amounted to £2 4s and there were in addition many offers of plum puddings.
International: The Cavell Crime. The Press of this country today rings with horror and indignation at the cold-blooded murder of a noble woman who was 'happy to die for England'. Admiration and sorrow for the heroine will be perpetuated in a fitting monument. Indignation can be best expressed in action. They should be no further need to talk about conscription. "if there are any hanging back, if there are any idle, extravagant, occupied with their own affairs, we say the name Cavell and what is stands for should call them fiercely, each to the utmost of their capacity, to wreak that vengeance... may Germany trace the beginning of the end in her perpetration of that vile crime in Brussels.
There were no casualties reported on this day.
