17th August 1915 - Vesta Tilley's silver wedding

Worcs. Yeomanry in 1st Mounted Brigade, arrives at Lemnos from Alexandria

Miss Vesta Tilley and her husband Mr Walter de Frece celebrated their silver wedding at a garden party in Maidenhead. There were over 200 guests and several handsome presents from friends and admirers all over the country, including 1,600 oz of silver.

At the request of Sec Lieut Abell, who is with the 3/8th Worcestershires at Malvern. Messrs. Hardy and Padmore have constructed a dummy model machine-gun which is to be used to instrcut the Battalion. The same firm have confirmed that they have been given a contract to manufacture bombs. Local DCM thanks schoolboys for their kind package. Pte R Jeff, the gallant 8th Worcs DCM writes: "Many thanks to you for your kindness in sending me a parcel. I shall be sure to come and see you all when I get leave and will thank you personally. We are all well and as happy as can be expected. We have had a good experience as far as trench fighting goes and when I come I will explain it to you and how I won my DCM"
