13th August 1915 - Field Family suffer another lost son

2nd Batt: Battalion in billets at Beuvry; 3rd Batt: In trenches near La Brique; 9th Batt. Survivors joined Lt Inwood, the only officer left, and his surviving 100 men. Amalgamated with the 7th Gloucestershires to make a provisional platoon.

Lt Howard Field of the 4th Worcs Regt, who has been killed at the Dardanelles, was the fifth and younger surviving son of Mr and Mrs W L Field. Brother of the late Captain Clifford Field RMLI who lost his life in the sinking of His Majesty's ship Aboukir on Sept 22 1914, also brother of the late Sec Lieut Cyril Field, who fell at the Dardanelles on June 4. On the outbreak of war he proceeded to France with the Worcs Regt and was wounded at Ypres in October. On recovery he was sent to the Dardanelles and after 3 months in the trenches he was invalided in the Ango-American hospital at Cairo on June 7, returning to the Dardanelles a few days before his death. Lieut Field was only 21 years of age.
