9th September 1914 - Two wounded soldiers back in Worcester

Pte. George Shannon 11365 2nd Batt. killed

2nd Batt: orders to march on Charly just N of the River Marne.

3rd Batt: Crossed River Marne.

Lance-Cpl F. Dean (shot in the muscle of right arm) and Pte Price (gunshot in the knee) were the first 2 Worcester men to return from the Front, both had been wounded during the fighting at Mons;

Mr W.W.A. Tree had accommodated a family of Belgian refugees in a suite of rooms at the rear of his offices in ForegateStreet: Mr Tree had also put Battenhall Grange, at present vacant, at the disposal of other families;

Major Coventry’s Mishap - Major the Hon. C J Coventry, who has been in command of “C” Squadron of the Worcestershire Yeomanry, has now been appointed Second in Command of the Regiment. Lieut. Wiggin has been promoted to Major Coventry’s place as commanding “C” Squadron. Major Coventry was hurt the other day by being thrown from his horse, which caught its foot in a hole in the ground, but it is hoped that he will soon be all right again.
