15th September 1914 - Major Hankey assumes command of 2nd Battalion

2nd Batt: In position in the heights NE of Moussy. Shelled vigorously all day long, more casualties including officers. Major Hankey assumes command of the Battalion;
3rd Batt: 'A' and 'C' companies supporting Irish Rifles and Wilts Regt at Vailly. Further casualties 25 wounded, 3 missing.
Pte Wheatley (3rd Worcs), a Hallow man returned home after being wounded in the knee by shrapnel. His father and 4 brothers have been, or are, serving with the Army. Pte Wheatley reported that despite being in the thick of the fighting they sang in the trenches 'just as merrily as they had sung on the march to the Front';
The Yeomanry – The new Yeomanry Reserve Regiment is filling up in a most satisfactory manner, and will probably be completed in a few days. The Yeomanry are also asking for 10 farriers, two saddlers, and four trumpeters.
