18th August 1914 - Impact on local trade

2nd Worcs. Battalion billetted at St Germain. 3rd Battalion route march.

The Worcester City Relief Fund had reached £523, there were 160 soldiers' wives on the register.

There were many ups and downs in the fortunes of Worcester industries: Messrs GH Williamson & Sons Ltd reported an increase in work due to government contracts; Gloving was adversely affected with employees of Dent, Allcroft & Co and Fownes being put on a three-day week.

The Porcelain works was feeling the dislocation of German work and was reduced to a four-day week.
