9th August 1914 - French successes

Big muster of National Reservists on Worcester Racecourse as the Terriers prepared to leave the city: The muster inspired many ex-soldiers and volunteers to swell the ranks, '...such patriotic feeling was expressed as to promise that Worcestershire will fullfil its splendid traditions'.

Call for economy in war time; Cadbury's announce 'We have made no increase in the price of our cocoa and chocolates'; Women were encouraged to think about how they could best aid our soldiers at the front by diligent housekeeping, join the Red Cross Society, act as Nursing assistants in the Infirmary, making clothes for men going into active service.

The battle between Germany and France for Alsace-Lorraine was a 'Brilliant French success' as the Germans lose '2 to 1', the Germans lost 30,000 killed and wounded, the French 15,000.
